ALEKS Corporation is a Delaware corporation formed in November 1996 by the Corporation's Chairman, Professor Jean-Claude Falmagne, an internationally recognized researcher in mathematical cognitive science, and his fellow researchers. Beginning in 1993, Professor Falmagne assembled a team of software engineers, mathematicians and cognitive scientists at UCI. With major funding from the National Science Foundation, Professor Falmagne's team created the ALEKS® interactive software and system for the Arithmetic and Algebra 1 curricula. ALEKS has been licensed by the University of California to ALEKS Corporation under an exclusive, long-term, worldwide license. ALEKS is currently available for a large number of Math, Business and Science subjects.
ALEKS is a revolutionary Internet technology, fundamentally different from previous educational software. At the heart of ALEKS is an artificial intelligence engine containing a detailed structural model of the multiplicity of the feasible knowledge states in a particular subject. Taking advantage of state-of-the-art software technology, ALEKS is capable of searching an enormous knowledge structure efficiently and ascertaining the exact knowledge-state of the individual student.
ALEKS is currently being used by hundreds of thousands of students annually in K-12 schools and colleges. It is available bilingually in English and Spanish in many subjects. ALEKS Corporation employs approximately 50 people in its Tustin, California heaquarters.
