Industry Technology Licensing
UC Irvine and the entire University of California system are committed to forging strong university/industry alliances that expand the research and technological capabilities of both sectors and result in commercial application of research results to benefit the public. Through UCI's Office of Technology Alliances (OTA), new and established companies, especially those in the high-tech and medical fields, can access leading-edge technology developed in UCI's dynamic R & D environment.
OTA has developed a “win-win-win” strategy for building and sustaining UCI's relationships with its licensees.

Negotiating Licenses
OTA prides itself in being accessible, timely and as flexible as possible within University policy. Licenses are negotiated in good faith using industry standards in the field. The campus can now take equity in start-up companies in lieu of some cash in license fees, can use milestone-based payments to share development risks, and can be flexible in developing licensing terms that reflect the particular needs of different industry sectors.
See Negotiating Agreements to learn about the flexibility, objectives and principles OTA uses when negotiating licenses.
